2019 will be the year of the launch of 5G worldwide. In addition to mobile networks, this launch is of course accompanied by the first 5G-compatible smartphones. We have compiled a list of this year’s most anticipated 5G smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy S10 X 5G
Samsung will introduce the Galaxy S10, its new flagship, on February 20, 2019. However, the smartphone should only be compatible with 4G LTE. On the other hand, the brand would have a 5G variant of the smartphone, under the name Galaxy S10 X, which would benefit from a massive 5,000 mAh battery. The higher consumption of the 5G modem and smartphone antennas would explain such capacity.
The 5G smartphone from OnePlus
The owner of the Chinese brand confirmed that his first smartphone compatible with 5G networks would not be the OnePlus 7, but a whole separate range. And for a good reason, the integration of 5G would increase the smartphone’s selling price too much, while it still relies on its performance/price ratio despite successive price increases. This 5G smartphone should be on the market before May 2019.
This smartphone should integrate the Snapdragon 850 with Qualcomm’s X50 5G NR modem. A brand manager even took to the stage at a Qualcomm event to announce that he would be one of the first to offer a 5G product in 2019.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is one of the successes of this new year. It is only compatible with 4G, but the manufacturer has already announced a new version equipped with Snapdragon 855 and 5G. Its release should be limited to a few markets around the world, primarily China with the operator China Mobile.
The folding 5G smartphone from Huawei
In 2018, Huawei established itself as one of the leading mobile phone giants, thanks to the hugely successful P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro. The company, therefore, had to make announcements about 5G and quickly promised to launch a compatible smartphone in 2019. This smartphone will also be Huawei’s first folding device, which could, therefore, transform into a tablet. The presentation could be made at the MWC at the end of February.
HTC is experimenting with 5G
In September 2018, an HTC employee disclosed that the company was working on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and 5G modem. Since then, Qualcomm has revealed that HTC is on its list of preferred partners to work on 5G for 2019. Although the manufacturer has reduced its partner list in recent years, it seems ready to board the train on the new mobile network.
After the launch of the Motorola Z3 in 2018, already compatible with 5G with the addition of a unique Moto Mod, Motorola would work on a new high-end smartphone. Known as the “Odin” code, it would integrate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855, with a 5G modem, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. This smartphone could be the Motorola Moto Z4.
